Makes 4-6 servings.
- Boil in the water or chicken broth all the vegetables until tender. While vegetables are cooking, make white sauce.
- To make white sauce: put 2 cups milk in saucepan and add 1/4 cup butter. When butter is melted, gradually add the 1/4 cup flour until it becomes thick. Add 2 cups cheese. Stir until cheese is melted. Stir the cheese sauce into vegetables.
- Add ham and blend well. If it becomes too thick, add more milk until soup is creamy. Heat and serve.
