French Onion Soup

Makes 4 to 6 servings.



  1. Cook onion in butter or margarine till lightly browned, about 15 minutes.
  2. Add beef broth, water, and Worcestershire sauce; simmer 20 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle bread slices generously with cheese.
  4. Place under broiler till cheese is lightly browned.
  5. Float a slice of cheese-topped toast on each serving of soup.
