Grandma's Old Fashioned Bread Pudding

Serve warm with sauce.



  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine bread and raisins in large bowl.
  2. Combine 2 cups milk and 1/4 cup butter in saucepan. Cook over medium heat until butter is melted. Pour over bread, let stand 10 minutes.
  3. Stir in 1/2 cup sugar, eggs, 1 tablespoon vanilla, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Pour into greased casserole dish bake for 40-50 minutes or until set in the center.
  4. For sauce: combine 1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/2 cup brown sugar. Cook over medium heat stirring occasionally, until mixture thickens and comes to a full boil Stir in 1 tablespoon vanilla. Pour sauce over top of baked pudding or serve in individual dessert dishes.
