My Best Gingerbread

This recipe came from my Grandmother's Old Fashioned Molasses Goodies Cookbook printed in 1932.

Makes 15 generous portions.



  1. Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten egg, molasses, the dry ingredients which have been sifted together.
  2. Add hot water last and beat until smooth. The batter is soft but it makes a fine cake.
  3. Bake in greased shallow pan 35 minutes in moderate oven 325-350 degrees.
