A delicious apple butter flavored with red hot candies.
The original recipe from the 1900's calls for 10 cents worth of red hots. I have no idea how much that would be today. I usually just guess the amount and dump some in.
Ingredients
Directions
- To the apple pulp that has been cooked and put though a colander, add sugar, cider, spices and vinegar. When cooked enough, add your red hots and stir until dissolved.
- Recipe Note:
- This is all the original recipe says, but to finish it, you cook on a very slow heat until the apple butter doesn't slide off the spoon, and the bubbles slowly rise and burst in pan. Most times, I cook it an hour or so. Put in sterilized jars, and water bath for 20-30 minutes.
