- Line 2 pie pans with pastry.
- Make crumbs by combining flour, sugar, salt and shortening.
- Dissolve soda in hot water and combine with molasses.
- Add 3/4 cup crumbs and pour into pastry lined pans and top with remaining crumbs.
- Bake in a very hot oven (450 degrees) for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 and bake 20 minutes longer or until firm.
